Victim Rights & Disciplinary Notification (Title IX)

Paris Junior College is committed to a safe campus for every student. If you experience dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, or stalking — on campus, off campus, or involving another member of the PJC community — federal law (Title IX and the Clery Act, as amended by the Violence Against Women Act) gives you specific rights, and PJC is committed to upholding them.

Your Rights After an Incident

  • You can report to PJC Campus Safety, a Title IX investigator, local law enforcement, any combination of these, or none. Reporting to the college does not require reporting to police, and reporting to police does not require reporting to the college.
  • You have the right to a written explanation of your options and the resources available to you, whether or not you choose to report to law enforcement.
  • You can request changes to your class schedule, campus housing, transportation, or work assignment when reasonably available — whether or not you file a formal complaint or pursue disciplinary action.

Requesting Accommodations or Assistance

Contact a Title IX investigator or PJC Campus Safety to request any of the accommodations above, or to learn about counseling, medical, and advocacy resources available on and off campus. You do not need to have decided whether to file a report to ask for help.

The Disciplinary Process

If you choose to file a formal complaint, PJC will conduct a prompt, fair, and impartial investigation and disciplinary process, led by officials who receive annual training on dating violence, domestic violence, sexual assault, and stalking. You and the responding party have the same right to have an advisor of your choice present throughout the process.

Notification of Outcome

You and the responding party will be notified at the same time and in writing of: the outcome of the disciplinary proceeding, any sanctions imposed, the procedures available to appeal the outcome, and when the decision becomes final.
