PJC students nominate Homecoming Court

Paris Junior College students in Paris, Greenville and Sulphur Springs have nominated the PJC Homecoming Court of 2012. The King and Queen nominees include: Cheyenne Swenson of Draper, Utah; Trevor Hevron and Hailey Hickman of Honey Grove; Chase Harvey of Paris; Ashley Reed of Clarksville; Ryan Fickel of Liberty Hill; Carlee Bishop of Greenville and Matt Johnson of Plano.
To be considered, students are first nominated by PJC student organizations and must be full-time students with 30 completed college hours and an overall 2.5 GPA. Crowning of PJC's Homecoming King and Queen comes during the halftime of the men's game beginning at 6 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 in the Hunt Center.
Nominees for King and Queen include: Cheyenne Swenson of Draper, Utah; Trevor Hevron and Hailey Hickman of Honey Grove; Chase Harvey of Paris; Ashley Reed of Clarksville; Ryan Fickel of Liberty Hill; Carlee Bishop of Greenville and Matt Johnson of Plano.
Swenson graduated from Alta High School in 2011 and is the daughter of Stacey Loe of Draper, Utah. She attends PJC on a volleyball scholarship and is a two-year member of the Lady Dragons volleyball team. She has recently been nominated to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. After PJC she plans to continue her education at a four-year university while playing volleyball.
Hevron is a 2011 graduate of Honey Grove High School and the son of Ricky Hevron and Shawona Rhoades of Honey Grove, Texas. He attends PJC on a cheerleading scholarship and is a member of the PJC cheerleading squad. He is a presidential scholar and has also been nominated to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. After PJC he plans to continue his education at the University of North Texas pursuing his degree in business management.
Hickman is a 2011 graduate of Honey Grove High School and the daughter of Doug and Angie Hickman. She attends PJC on a cheerleading scholarship and is a two-year member of the Paris Junior College cheerleading squad. She is also a member of the Student Government Association. She has recently been nominated to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges and plans to continue her education through the Surgical Technology program at PJC.
Harvey is a 2011 graduate of Paris High School and the son of Mike and Kristi Harvey. He is a kinesiology major and two-year member of the Dragons baseball team. A Texas scholar, he was the 2009 Red River Valley Most Valuable Player, 2009 Offensive and Defensive MVP, 2010 Third Team All State, and 2011 Defensive MVP. After PJC he plans to continue playing baseball at a four-year university while pursuing his degree in physical therapy.
Reed is a 2011 graduate of Clarksville High School and the daughter of Marsha and Calvin Reed. She is a member of the Student Government Association, the secretary for the African-American Student Union and a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society. After PJC she plans to continue her education at the University of Texas at Tyler while pursuing her degree in physical therapy.
Fickel is a 2011 graduate of Liberty Hill High School and the son of Brad and Jeannie Fickel of Liberty Hill, Texas. He is a sports science major and two-year member of the Dragons baseball team. His freshman year he was named Newcomer of Year, made honorable mention all-state football in 2008, and baseball first team All-District baseball. After PJC he plans to continue playing baseball at a four-year university while pursuing his degree in physical therapy.
Bishop is a 2011 graduate of Greenville High School and is the daughter of Steve and Daphne Bishop of Greenville, Texas. She is a member of the Phi Theta Kappa honor society and recently been nominated to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. After PJC she plans to continue her education at a four-year university.
Johnson is a 2011 graduate of Plano Senior High and the son of Larry and Julie Johnson. He attends PJC on a baseball scholarship and is majoring in sports science. He is a two-year member of the Dragon baseball team, recently playing in the Junior College All Star Baseball Game in Austin. He has been named to Who's Who Among Students in American Junior Colleges. After PJC, Matt plans to transfer to a four-year university, playing baseball while continuing his education.
PJC's 88th Homecoming festivities kick off with the annual parade at 4 p.m. on Nov. 1. The parade starts on Collegiate Drive, proceeds through downtown Paris then returns to campus. Friday evening is the President's Reception at the McLemore Student Center Ballroom.
Saturday the Annual Alumni and Friends Association board meeting is held at 9 a.m. in the McLemore Student Center cafeteria, followed by coffee and conversation in the lobby at 10 a.m. The Memorial Service in the DeShong Chapel follows at 11 a.m.
The Distinguished Alumni Award Luncheon honoring Ruth Ann Stallings will be held in the Civic Center at noon with serving lines open at 11:45 a.m. Tickets are still available.
Events return to campus with the Hall of Honor induction at 2:30 p.m. of Paul Gene Roden and E.C. and Jimmye Hancock in the McLemore Student Center Ballroom. At 4 p.m. the Hunt Center features the Lady Dragons and Dragons basketball games against Murray State College. At half time of the women's game Don Wilhelm will be inducted into PJC's Athletic Hall of Fame, followed by the men's game with the halftime crowing of the King and Queen.
