Adam Walsh new assistant men’s basketball coach

Adam Patrick Walsh, a native of Winchester, Va., and a graduate of High Point University in High Point, N.C., has joined the Paris Junior College Dragons men's basketball program as assistant coach. "I'm very excited to be working with this team," said Walsh. "Lots of potential." While a high school injury prevented Walsh from continuing his playing career in college, his enthusiasm for the sport was never dampened. He holds a bachelor's degree in sports management, with a minor in athletic coaching. Walsh, 27, came to the Dragons from Odessa College, where he was Coordinator of Student Life and Activities and a volunteer assistant for the Wranglers basketball program for a year. From 2003 to 2005, Walsh was third assistant coach for the Division I Texas A&M University - Corpus Christi Islanders. The Islanders put together back-to-back winning seasons during his time there and posted a school record 20 wins during his final season. Walsh served as assistant coach for the Division II Barton College Bulldogs in Wilson, N.C., from 2001 to 2003. The team made the national tournament in 2003 and was ranked 24th in the nation. He was also a graduate assistant for the Campbell University Fighting Campbells in Buies Creek, N.C., from 2001 to 2002, and was team manager for High Point's Panthers from 1997 to 2000. "We really have a chance to do something special this year," Walsh said, noting not just the talent of this year's Dragons, but also the enthusiasm of the returning sophomores. "The sophomores are fired up." "With Adam's experience working in all aspects of the game, he'll be an invaluable asset to the program and to the college," said Dragons Head Coach Ross Hodge. "Obviously, he's a very good coach, and he's even a better person. He's a good fit." Walsh plans to continue his academic work toward a master's degree in business administration at nearby Texas A&M University - Commerce.
