PJC sets airframe, powerplant prep courses

Paris Junior College – Greenville Center will begin offering Airframe and Powerplant Preparatory Courses in August, according to Workforce Development Dean Kevin Rose. The classes will be held at the PJC Aviation Training Center located at 89 Majors Road. These classes will enhance the fundamental technical procedures in the required subject matter necessary to pass the written, oral and practical certification as a Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) Airframe and Powerplant Technician. Students must have 18 months of practical experience with procedures, materials and tools on either airframe or powerplant, or, must have 30 months of combined practical experience on both airframe and powerplant to receive both certifications. Documentation of the required experience specified FAR 65.77 must be presented at the local FAA office. The Airframe and Powerplant General Knowledge class will include basic electricity; aircraft drawings; weight and balance; fluid lines and fittings; material and processes; ground operations and servicing; cleaning and corrosion control, mathematics; maintenance forms and records; basic physics; maintenance publications; and mechanic privileges and limitations. This class will meet from 5 p.m. to 10 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Aug. 3-7. The A&P Airframe Systems class will be set up to instruct aircraft technicians who have the required time spent on the aircraft, but still lack some of the knowledge to complete the written, oral and practical test. This class will offer 30 percent hands-on training and 70 percent classroom lecture training. This class will be held from 5 p.m. to 9 p.m., Monday through Thursday, Aug. 10 through Sept. 3. An A&P Powerplant Systems class will be offered beginning in September. To register for either of these classes, call the Paris Junior College Aviation Training Center at 903-453-6434.
