PJC Dragons athletes honored with awards

Paris Junior College recognized athletes and cheerleaders Monday. Athletes winning awards were, from the left: Garrett Killgore, Barney Bray Cup for baseball’s Most Valuable Player; Dennis Andersen, Mickey Flippen Cup for golf MVP; Audrey Farfan, Vernon Carter Cup for softball MVP; Bianca Hanna, Don Wilhelm Cup for women’s basketball MVP; T.J. Taylor, McLemore Cup as Overall MVP for all sports and co-winner of the Carroll Dawson Cup for men’s basketball MVP; and Phil Hawkins, co-winner of the Carroll Dawson Cup for men’s basketball MVP. Paris Junior College Athletic Department recognized Dragons athletes and cheerleaders at awards ceremonies Monday in the PJC Ballroom.
Athletic Director and Women's Head Basketball Coach Sean LeBeauf welcomed those in attendance and expressed appreciation for the support of administration, faculty and staff as well as community members. He noted that Paris Junior College competes in one of the toughest regions in the U.S. and in the past year five teams were ranked nationally. This attests to the hard work and competitiveness of Dragons athletes.
Each sport's coach gave highlights of the past season and introduced assistant coaches and members of their respective teams.
Special awards were given. The women's basketball Ambassador Award for outstanding effort in the classroom, on the team and in the community went to Alexys Plummer, sophomore from St. Charles, Mo.
The Bobby Walters Cup for the sophomore athlete with the highest grade point average went to Rachel Maslowski of Wylie, Texas, with a 3.67 GPA. Terrance "T.J." Taylor of Denison, Texas, was awarded the McLemore Cup as overall MVP of all sports as voted on by the coaches.
The Barney Bray Cup for baseball MVP was presented to Garrett Killgore of Frisco, Texas.
Phillip Hawkins of Washington, D.C., and Taylor were co-winners of the Carroll Dawson Cup for men's basketball MVP.
The Don Wilhelm Cup for women's basketball MVP was won by Bianca Hanna of Tellevast, Fla.
Dennis Andersen of Randers, Denmark, won the Mickey Flippen Cup for golf MVP.
The Vernon Carter Cup for MVP softball was presented to Audrey Farfan of Royse City, Texas.
The Volleyball MVP cup went to Veronica Azubuike of Arlington, Texas.
