Auditions set for “The Foreigner” and “Proof”

Paris Junior College Drama Department has set audition dates for its next two productions, "The Foreigner" and "Proof." Auditions for "The Foreigner" will be Tuesday, Jan. 17, at 6:30 p.m. in the Ray Karrer Theatre for the Performing Arts. "The Foreigner" tells the uproariously farcical tale of a lovable but socially inept Brit who escapes his stressful life by booking a holiday in backwoods America. He desperately tries to avoid the local yokels by posing as a foreigner who doesn't understand a word of English. But the plan hilariously backfires when he becomes the perfect person with whom all share their deepest secrets and schemes. Auditions for "Proof" will be Tuesday, Jan. 24, at 6:30 p.m., also in the Ray Karrer Theatre for the Performing Arts. In "Proof," Catherine, the daughter of a once-brilliant mathematician, is at the center of the story. Caring for her aging father, Catherine is at once attracted and repelled by her father's genius. She is torn between returning to New York with her sister, and helping an old student of her father salvage something meaningful from the stacks of notes her father kept. This play won the 2001 Pulitzer Prize for drama and a 2001 Tony Award for best play. Performance dates for "The Foreigner" are Feb. 17-18 and Feb. 24-26. Performances of "Proof" will be April 7-8 and April 14-16. Auditions will consist of cold readings from the scripts. No additional preparation is needed. All roles are available. Those wishing to audition should bring a list of possible scheduling conflicts.
