Basic Electrical Theory

Published or Revised May 16, 2014

This course covers the fundamentals of electricity with emphasis on resistance, voltage and current, electrical quantities and units of measurements, and OHM’s Law, Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws for Direct Current. The material will also cover the principles and applications of alternating current, inductors, capacitors, and phase relationships. Course Outcomes: Identify safe practices for working with DC circuits according to OSHA standards; explain OHM’s and Kirchhoff’s Law to internal/external customers; use electrical measuring instrumentation; apply OHM’s and Kirchhoff’s voltage and current laws to calculate voltage and current; design and evaluate a DC Circuit; and apply principles of alternating current (AC) power in installation and troubleshooting of circuits. » Dates to be announced.
