Paris Junior College men’s basketball Head Coach Chuck Taylor, left, and women’s basketball Head Coach Sean Lebeauf will observe Suits and Sneakers Weekend a little early Wednesday evening with their attire. The event, sponsored by the American Cancer Society, is used to raise cancer awareness. The games are at 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. in the Hunt Center.
Suits and sneakers will be sported by the Paris Junior College men's and women's basketball coaches this Wednesday to observe Coaches vs. Cancer at the 5:30 and 7:30 p.m. games against Tyler Junior College in the Hunt Center. Though the actual Suits and Sneakers Weekend officially kicks off Thursday, Feb. 21, neither team is playing at home this Saturday.
"As a basketball team and community we want to do what we can to help with cancer awareness," said PJC men's basketball Coach Chuck Taylor. "Most college and university athletic departments show their support for cancer survivors."
The women's team will wear pink workout shirts just prior to the game, as well, according to PJC women's basketball Coach Sean LeBeauf.
Coaches vs. Cancer is an initiative of the American Cancer Society that empowers coaches, their teams, and local communities to make a difference in the fight against cancer. By lacing up sneakers with their suits, PJC coaches are spotlighting the fact that while cancer remains a major health concern, everyone can take daily steps to reduce their risk of the disease.
Coaches are also sharing the importance of nutrition and physical activity in reducing one's risk of cancer. The event helps promote the American Cancer Society as a place for people facing cancer to turn 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for free information, help and support.
