Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) at Paris Junior College
At Paris Junior College, the safety and well-being of our students, faculty, and staff are our top priorities. The Behavioral Intervention Team (BIT) is a proactive, multi-disciplinary group committed to identifying, assessing, and responding to individuals who may pose a risk to themselves or others.
The BIT serves as a central resource for recognizing and addressing concerning behaviors within our campus community. Whether it’s a student displaying signs of emotional distress, or faculty and staff observing potentially disruptive behaviors, the BIT is here to offer support and provide early intervention.
To report behaviors that may indicate a potential risk or cause for concern:
Our MISSION
The mission of the BIT is to promote a safe and supportive campus environment by:
- Identifying individuals who exhibit concerning behaviors.
- Assessing the risk and determining appropriate interventions.
- Offering resources and referrals to address personal or academic challenges.
- Facilitating open communication between faculty, staff, and students to ensure timely responses.
How We Help
The Behavioral Intervention Team coordinates with campus resources to create a comprehensive response tailored to each situation. Our approach includes:
- Early identification of students or staff members who may need help.
- Confidential, compassionate intervention strategies to support the individual.
- Collaborating with counseling services, academic advisors, and campus safety teams to ensure a holistic approach to care.
What Should You Report?
We encourage the campus community to report behaviors that may indicate a potential risk or cause for concern, such as:
- Signs of emotional distress or mental health crises.
- Threatening or aggressive behavior.
- Sudden academic decline or withdrawal from activities.
- Observable changes in behavior, hygiene, or social interactions.
- Indications of harm to self or others.
Confidentiality and Care
All reports are handled with the utmost confidentiality. Our goal is to provide support while respecting the privacy and dignity of the individual involved. The BIT works discreetly to ensure the campus remains a secure, nurturing place for everyone.
