A new performance group from Paris Junior College, The Cabaret Singers of Paris, debuted Thursday before the Sunshine Club at Calvary Methodist Church in Paris. The Sunshine Club is a once-a-month lunch group with different entertainment programs and the singers were a perfect fit.
"The Cabaret Singers of Paris is PJC's newest music ensemble," said PJC music instructor and Director of Choirs Philip Briggs. "Begun in the fall 2012 semester, the group is made up of students enrolled with a musical theater degree concentration. Each of them is preparing for work at the university level and they hope to work in the professional world of musical theater in the future."
Students in the group are Austen Naron, Shelby Gilliam, Justin Cox, Edward Kelley and Riley Moore. Accompanied by Briggs on the piano, the group performed selections from musical shows by Jerome Kern and Cole Porter.
"The Cabaret Singers were very well received," said Sunshine Club program director and PJC English instructor Daisy Harvill. "Our members liked their performance."
The Cabaret Singers of Paris is available to perform during PJC's spring and fall semesters. For more information call the PJC Music Department at 903-782-0343.
