Chamber Singers spring concert set April 7

The Paris Junior College Chamber Singers will present their spring concert, Songs of Hope, at 7:30 p.m. Tuesday, April 7, in the sanctuary of First United Methodist Church, according to Patricia Fowzer, vocal instructor. There is no admission charge, and the public is invited. This elite choral group will debut a program of songs specifically chosen to demonstrate the power of music to uplift the human spirit. Selections include [i]I Can Make A Difference[/i], [i]Love Never Fails[/i], [i]You Raise Me Up/Be Still My Soul[/i] and [i]Witness[/i]. Voice students of Fowzer and adjunct instructor Roger Bryant will sing solos of hope such as [i]Why We Sing[/i], [i]Through The Eyes of a Child[/i], [i]The Lord's Prayer[/i] and [i]The Holy City[/i]. Soloists are Josh Mooneyham , Chase Nation, Jenilyn Fowzer, Gloria Cooper, Adam Cawthon, Glenn Pruitt, Trenton Little, all of Paris, Vallery Schmidt of Bogata and Brandi Amos of New Boston. The 10 All-State Two-Year College Choir members from PJC will sing an a cappella arrangement of [i]Danny Boy[/i] that was part of their repertoire at the 2009 All State Choir Concert program. In addition, Justin Hughes of Powderly, PJC's first All-State Band member in many years, will perform [i]Sonata for Clarinet and Piano Opus 120[/i] by Brahms. Justin is a clarinet student of adjunct instrumental instructor Ben Fowzer, and will be accompanied by Jennie Vaughan, oordinator of music. Linda Flannary is accompanist for the Chamber Singers. Other Chamber Singers members are Hillary Evans of Greenville, Catherine Jones and Kristyn Phillips of Powderly, and Cade Bailey, Donna Bauder, Eboni Dixon, Alex Fowzer, Justin Frazier, Krystal Jones, Shantal Maxwell, Kaitlyn McCormack, and Satti Nyachwaya, all of Paris. This has been an eventful year for the music program. In addition to All-State Choir and Band honors, the Chamber Singers have been invited for the fifth year in a row to sing the national anthem for the Texas Rangers. This year the group will perform at the Dr Pepper Ballpark in Frisco for an exhibition game between the Rangers and the Kansas City Royals at 7 p.m. on Friday, April 3.
