Children’s Play Opens PJC Drama Season
Published or Revised September 12, 2013
Paris Junior College drama students Paige Collins (Ruby) and Riley Collard (Jake) get suggestions from PJC drama instructor Alex Peevy (center) as they rehearse a scene from the children’s play, “The Delicious Revenge of Princess Ruby Slippers,” that opens Thursday, September 19 at 7:00 p.m. in the Ray Karrer Theater.
What happens when you and your friend refuse to play with your little sister, and she climbs in a box and disappears – into a fairy tale world? That’s the premise of “The Delicious Revenge of Princess Ruby Slippers,” a children’s tale presented by the Paris Junior College Drama Department on September 20-22.
Ruby, her brother Jake and his friend Tom, a harassed mother, and a handful of favorite fairy tale characters turn this tale of sibling rivalry and parental desperation into comic confusion once the children enter the world of fairy tale.
The wicked witch is itching to make boy pie, and mom turns into a fairy godmother that isn’t very helpful. Throw in the big bad wolf, a giant, a witch and Prince Charming, and there’s a surprise around every corner and a twist in every tale.
“’The Delicious Revenge of Princess Ruby Slippers’ is truly a family play that we can all laugh at together,” said Alex Peevy, PJC drama instructor and play director. “The landscape of a sibling rivalry is a challenge we all can relate to.”
The cast includes Paige Collins as Ruby, Riley Collard as her broth Jake, Taren Sartor as his friend Tom, and Samantha Turner as the mother. Crew includes stage manager Marcus Kraut, assistant stage manager Kaytlyn Sims, sound board operator Derick Waugh and light board operator Tori Hunt.
Children, parents and grandparents will enjoy Princess Ruby Slippers. The play is at 7 p.m. Sept. 20-21 and 2 p.m. on Sept. 22 in the Ray Karrer Theater located in the Administration Building. Tickets are $5 and free for students with PJC ID. For more information call 903-782-0488.
