“Cyrano de Bergerac” opens Thursday night at PJC

Thursday evening sees the opening of one of the great romances at Paris Junior College's Ray Karrer Theater. [i]Cyrano de Bergerac[/i] begins at 7 p.m.
Directed by PJC Drama Instructor Alex Peevy, the play by Edmond Rostand centers on Cyrano, a nobleman serving as a soldier in the army of France. A skilled swordsman, gifted poet and musician, he nevertheless is crippled by doubt because of his large nose. He believes he cannot win the love of Roxane. Complications arise, as Christian and De Guiche also love Roxane.
"This is a fun, classical and lighthearted love story with a little tragedy," said Kevin Calhoun, who plays Christian. "You'll come, you'll laugh. Christian is a guy searching for love and he falls into a game."
"Is Cyrano brash, bold, brilliant, poetic, passionate, uncompromising, inspiring, and courageous or offensive, arrogant, insecure, awkward, angry, overbearing, dangerous, and deluded?" questions PJC Drama Instructor William Walker. The answer, of course, lies with the individual watching the play.
The cast of [i]Cyrano de Bergerac[/i] includes: Katrina Bishop as Duenna/Mother Margarite; Ryan Box as De Guiche; Roger Bridges as Captain Carbon; Kevin Calhoun as Christian; Paige Collins as Roxane, Kathryn Comer as Jodelet/Lise/Sister Claire; Justin Cox as Rageneau; Shelby Gilliam as Le Bret; Austen Naron as Cyrano; Lucas Robertson as Valvert/Cadet 3; Taren Sartor as Montfleury/Cadet 2; and Derick Waugh as A Bore/Cadet 1.
[i]Cyrano de Bergerac[/i]'s stage crew is: Director, Technical Design and Properties Master, Alex Peevy; Production Stage Manager, Kaytlyn Zimmer; Sound Board Operator, Leah Maxson; Run Crew, Edward Kelley and Caven Thompson; Master Carpenter, Kevin Calhoun; Costumes, William Walker; and PJC's Theater Practicum Class was the Construction Crew.
