Jean Dickerson, a radiology technology student at Paris Junior College, has been chosen to participate in the American Society of Radiologic Technologists 2012 Student Leadership Development Program. She will attend the 2012 ASRT Educational Symposium and Annual Governance and House of Delegates meeting in Las Vegas, Nev., and will be assigned a professional mentor while there. "It's certainly a privilege, and I'm proud to be a member of ASRT and attend PJC," said Dickerson, who is from Commerce, Texas. "PJC gives us a good education, and both ASRT and PJC promote high professional standards." "She's an effective student leader, and she's outstanding in the program," said Radiology Technology Coordinator/Instructor Karen Powers. "She'll be a great ambassador for PJC and the community. We're very proud of her." Students participating in the "Welcome to Your Future" essay competition were required to write a 500-700 word essay evaluated on factors including the author's commitment to pursuing a career in radiologic studies. Dickerson is one of 61 students chosen from more than 170 entrants to attend the national meeting in late June. "We are proud to support future professionals like you," stated the ASRT notification letter to Dickerson. The ASRT represents more than 144,000 members who perform medical imaging procedures or plan and deliver radiation therapy. The Society is the largest radiologic science association in the world, with a mission of advancing medical imaging and the radiation therapy profession and enhancing the quality of patient care.
