On a cold day last week, new inductees to the Paris Junior College Beta Zeta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the two-year college honor society, crowded into a stairwell to have their group shot taken after the ceremony.

The Paris Junior College Beta Zeta Chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, the two-year academic honor society, recently held induction ceremonies in the Student Center ballroom for students who became members during the fall semester. Chapter sponsors Marsha Dennis and Allen Williams conducted ceremonies while describing the various symbols of the organization. As each name was read the students lit their candle of light and learning and signed the official membership book. Williams said their achievements offer them a golden opportunity for good works through Phi Theta Kappa while making new friends and bonding with other members. Marsha Dennis gave an overview of the main community service project which is the American Cancer Society's Relay for Life. The national organization felt this project was so important that it has been held over for another two year cycle for the first time in PTK's history. The local chapter sponsors a team, sets up a booth and assists in many ways to make the local Relay for Life evening a success while supporting the community effort to assist in finding a cure for cancer. Dennis urged the new members to become involved in the event which is held the last weekend in June.
