PJC Dragons golf team now 8th in the nation

Published or Revised November 01, 2012

The PJC Dragons finished the fall season with a second-place team finish at the Coca-Cola Classic hosted by McLennan College at Waco's Twin Rivers Golf Club Oct. 29-30. PJC's team scores were 302 and 312 on the demanding course, and that was good enough for second out of the 10-team field. The Dragons moved from 18th to 8th in the latest NJCAA national poll that came out earlier this week. "This was the toughest golf course we have played this fall," said PJC Golf Coach David Johnson. "I thought we competed well. We left some shots out there but that's golf. We got to play some good teams from Kansas and West side of District II. It was good for us to compete against them. "We will start our off-season conditioning program and concentrate on school the rest of this semester. I was very proud of the whole team this fall with a win, two seconds and a fifth. It was a good start for us goint into the spring." Jeremy Salas, a freshman from Arlington's Martin High School, led the Dragons with rounds of 71-80 for a total of 151. Both Evan Feltham (74-79) and Trumann Nugent (76-77) had totals of 153. Close behind were Paul Simpson (77-77) and Ben Welker (75-79) with totals of 154. Zac Oliver had rounds of (83-81) for a 164 total.
