Dual-credit student Blan receives PTK scholarship

Published or Revised February 18, 2008

Cody Blan, a Paris Junior College - Greenville Center dual-credit student from Wills Point, is the recipient of a Phi Theta Kappa scholarship, according to Joe Jackson, PTK sponsor. Blan, along with Ja Leah Fox of Cunningham, Texas, were recently presented the awards. Phi Theta Kappa is the national junior college honor society. Cody, the son of Daniel and Susan Blan, is an exceptional student who will receive his associate's degree from the college prior to graduating from Boles High School. Blan also assists others students through peer mentoring. He has gained Eagle Scout rank and has won numerous Scouting awards. Blan currently carries a perfect 4.0 grade point average. The scholarships were made possible through the Phi Theta Kappa’s fundraising work with Better World Books. Better World Books is an organization that collects college text books, less than five years of age, pays organizations such as Phi Theta Kappa for the books collected, pays the shipping costs so that no expenses are incurred locally, and then ships the books to schools and libraries in Central and South America. Paris Junior College's PTK chapter raised the scholarship money through text books that students and faculty donated. One of the hallmarks of Phi Theta Kappa is promoting fellowship and the chapter partners with the PJC Hispanic Club chapters in campus activities.
