Encore! performs at the State Fair of Texas

Paris Junior College’s award-winning show choir Encore! performed two shows at the State Fair of Texas on Friday, Oct. 6 on the Gazebo Stage in the Food and Fiber Pavilion at the invitation of the Texas Department of Agriculture entertainment division. Their show entitled “A Blast from The Past” was the first performance of the year and featured several high-energy song and dance selections to favorites such as [i]Proud Mary[/i]; [i]Joyful, Joyful[/i] from the movie [i]Sister Act[/i]; [i]Popular[/i] from the musical, [i]Wicked[/i]; [i]Georgia On My Mind[/i], [i]What’d I Say[/i], [i]You Raise Me Up[/i], [i]The Water Runs Dry[/i], and [i]Love Heals[/i] from the movie [i]Rent[/i]. Encore! performed to very enthusiastic crowds and received many favorable comments from fairgoers after each performance. Many of the Encore! members got their first opportunity to perform prepared solos. Encore! will share their State Fair performance with their hometown audiences on Wednesday, Oct. 18 at 6 p.m. in the fellowship hall of First United Methodist Church. Their next performance will be their annual “Encore! in the Park” presentation of Christmas music in Bywaters Park on Dec. 2 at 6:30 p.m. Members of the 2006 Encore song and dance troupe include: Brandi Amos of Avery, Marcus Bailey of Paris, Haley Bulls of Paris, Amy Chennault of Paris, Donald Conklin of Paris, Kristen Eudy of Paris, Samantha House of Paris, Donovan Irby of Lewisville, Brittany Joseph of Paris, Tyler Little of Paris, Josh Maxwell of Paris, Erin McDowell of Paris, Jordan Perry of Paris, Kindra Reed of Point, Sammy Rollerson of Paris, Clay Rosprim of Denton, Dori Logsden of Detroit, Meshaya Wallace of Paris and LaShakea Wilkerson of Paris. Meshaya Wallace and Samantha House serve as choreographers for this year’s group. Whitney Palmer is the group’s assistant/stylist, and Robyn Huizinga continues to serve as dance/theatrical consultant. Encore! is directed by Patricia Fowzer, who rejuvenated the group in 1990 with a new name and a new approach to performance. Click here to see more photos of the groups State Fair performance.
