Former Dragon called up by the St. Louis Cardinals

Former Paris Junior College Dragons baseball player Andrew Brown has been called up to play for the Saint Louis Cardinals as an outfielder. He was first baseman for the Dragons from 2003 to 2005. "Andrew was the best hitter I've ever coached," said PJC Baseball Coach Deron Clark. "The guy could really hit, plus he was a good student and a good teammate. "As a high school freshman he was 5'8" and weighed 210 pounds. When he left he was 6 feet tall, weighed 185 pounds and just kept getting stronger and better. Every year since he's been a good hitter, and he earned his first Major League hit and RBI on Tuesday night in a game against the Washington Nationals." After PJC, Brown transferred to the University of Nebraska where he played two seasons for the Cornhuskers. He was named to the 2007 All-Regional Tournament Team in Arizona. During the 2007 Major League Baseball draft the St. Louis Cardinals took him in the 18th round. He spent most of the past two seasons playing for the Memphis Red Birds (Triple A) and Springfield Cardinals in Missouri. Brown came to PJC from Newman Smith High School in Carrollton, Texas. His high school team had five players drafted from the same senior class, including his PJC teammate Bryce Cox, who was selected as a third round draft pick in 2007 by the Boston Red Sox.
