“The Glass Menagerie” opens Thursday evening at PJC

The play that made Tennessee Williams famous, “The Glass Menagerie,” opens the Paris Junior College drama department’s spring season this Thursday and continues through Sunday.
Williams’ play, which is semi-autobiographical, tells the story of Amanda, a fading Southern women whose husband has left her and their two children to fend for themselves. Amanda worries about what will become of her daughter, who is crippled and painfully shy, if she doesn't marry soon. She also worries about her son, who spends late nights “at the movies,” which jeopardizes his job supporting the family during the hard times of the 1930s.
“‘The Glass Menagerie’ is a play about escape,” said PJC drama instructor and play director William Walker. “We long to escape our lives, our families, our day-to-day and yet even though we leave, we never really escape them.”
The cast includes Dalton Smith as Tom, Lisa Martin as Amanda, Haley Hines as Laura, and Riley Collard as Jim.
The crew is comprised of stage manager Andy Johnson, assistant stage managers Rheston Sills and Tyaisha Allen, light board operator Cody Rice, sound operator Laurent Salvadore, as well as stage crew of “Cap” Ford, Marcus Kraut, Cody Rice, and Stormy Wilhite.
