Published or Revised October 15, 2012

The Paris Junior College golf team took on several NCAA Division 2 teams and placed fifth recently at the Southeastern Oklahoma State University golf tournament at Chickasaw Pointe Golf Club in Kingston, Okla. The Dragons' team play was led by Zac Oliver, a freshman from Checotah, Okla., with rounds of 73-73-71. He was named to the All-Tournament Team. Sophomore Justin Ary, from Quinton, Okla., had a hole in one on the par three, 185-yard fifth hole. "It was our first tournament away from home at a longer golf course," said PJC Golf Coach David Johnson. "It made us hit some longer iron shots into the greens. That's something we needed to do. Zac Oliver played very well over the 54 holes finishing one over par. Justin Ary had his first hole in one of his career, so both of those were highlights for us. The guys will work hard to improve on the team finish." Rounding out play for the Dragons were Paul Simpson, sophomore from Aboyne, Scotland, with rounds of 74-79-76 and Ary had rounds of 81-76-75; the hole in one came in his middle round. Trumann Nugent, sophomore from Texarkana, Texas, shot a round of 77-81-79 and Ben Welker, sophomore from Carrollton, Texas, shot rounds of 83-76-79. In team scoring Oklahoma Christian University came in first at 872; Southwest Oklahoma State University had 888; Norwood University was 894; Newman University had 906 and Paris Junior College at fifth had 910. West Texas A&M University was 911; Sterling College had 933, Texas A&M University – Commerce was 938, Arkansas Monticello was 983 and Southern Arkansas University had 1010.
