Students at Paris Junior College - Greenville Center get a chance to view some Texas history in a display provided by instructor Paul Sturdevant. The exhibit is in recognition of Texas History Month.

In recognition of March being Texas History month, American history instructor Paul Sturdevant has brought a little history to the Paris Junior College - Greenville Center campus. Sturdevant prepared an exhibit of "Texas History Through the Centuries" using books and materials from his personal collection of Americana. The exhibit is designed to show students the many facets of Texas history and its broad scope and reach. Cattle ranching, exploration, Hispanic culture, education, international affairs and conflict are all present in this exhibit. The exhibit covers the Hispanic heritage of Texas, Republic of Texas, Annexation, Texas Rangers and outlaws, and general topics. Some of the items, such as the pamphlets on annexation and the Texas Constitution, date from the 1830s and 1840s. Another item is a first edition of Anson Jones' memoirs, dated 1859. Jones was the last president of the Republic of Texas. There is also a report on the Red River from 1854 and items from the late 1800s and early 1900s.
