New exhibit will feature scenic photographer

Western scenic photography is the focus of the debut Foyer Gallery exhibit for Joe Jackson, Paris Junior College's technical services librarian and photography student. The show opens Oct. 2 at the Paris Junior College Foyer Gallery and runs through Nov. 2. "I'm excited about it. It's been fun putting the show together," said Jackson. "It's taken three years to get the photos during trips to New Mexico and Colorado. I retraced part of the expedition of the steps of three photographers I researched." Jackson's exhibit resulted from his research on three iconic photographers of the Old West titled, "In The Shadow of Giants: Reimagining the Evidence of Haynes, Jackson, and Knee: Framing Fathers of Black-and-White Landscape Photography." "Jackson's photographs parallel the images taken by those photographers in terms of emphasis on their means of transportation to and from the photographic sites," said PJC art instructor Susan Moore. "The type of terrain or subject matter is what each of the photographers preferred, and the techniques are particular to each of them." The exhibition features 26 images, each with a paragraph describing the inspiration and emphasis behind the subject matter. The exhibit features a reception for the artist on Tuesday, Oct. 2, 4:30 p.m. to 6 p.m. The exhibit will be open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., in the Foyer Gallery located in the Art Building, through Nov. 2.
