Fall signals the beginning of another exciting sports year at Paris Junior College and the introduction of the Dragon Pride Athletic Booster Club. A "Get Acquainted Hamburger Supper" is planned for Wednesday, Oct. 14, from 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. in the McLemore Student Center Ballroom at PJC. "The dinner will allow you the opportunity to 'meet and greet' our student-athletes and coaches," said PJC President Dr. Pam Anglin. "This Dragon Pride-sponsored activity is both a kick-off for the membership drive and a chance for you to get to know the student-athletes on a personal basis. "We have six NJCAA Division I sports and over 100 student-athletes representing PJC on the court and fields of play, and support for each sport continues to grow throughout our community," Dr. Anglin added. "Because of the enhanced level of interest and overall spirit, I invite you to become a charter member of the Dragon Pride Athletic Booster Club. Revenue generated from memberships in Dragon Pride will support all sports. "The goal of the Booster Club is to create educational opportunities by providing physical and financial assistance for various components of the program in accordance with the NJCAA guidelines," Dr. Anglin stated. Funds raised by Dragon Pride will support recruitment, travel, medical services, uniforms and equipment necessary to move PJC Athletics to the next level. "We invite the community to come out and enjoy a time of getting to know these young men and women who bring excitement to their various sports," she said. All coaches will also be on hand to introduce their teams. Applications for both individual (PDF) and business (PDF) memberships are available online at www.parisjc.edu. Click on the "PJC Dragons Sports" link to go to the main Dragons Web page. Links to both individual and business forms are near the top of the left column. Click them to download the forms in PDF format. As charter members of Dragon Pride, members will receive limited edition shirts, all-sport admission passes and guest passes for family members or friends. Sponsorship banners are available for display in the Hunt Center Complex. A special "Lil Dragon" membership is available for children 10 and under. Special events and meetings will be held during the year for Dragon Pride members, and an exclusive e-mailing list will keep members informed on upcoming games, tournaments and student-athlete successes. Special activities are being planned to promote attendance and overall community support while elevating college spirit. Dr. Anglin also pointed out, "The fall semester is off to a great start at PJC, and our enrollment has hit another all-time high. I welcome the chance to provide you a personal update at the Hamburger Supper." The cost for the meal is $5 per person.
