Paris Founders Lions Club President Bob Seale, center, and Past President Jenn Sandlin, left, present a $10,000 check to Derald Bulls, PJC’s director of institutional advancement and alumni affairs. The money will endow an annual scholarship in the Lions Club’s name.
The Paris Founders Lions Club recently donated $10,000 toward a general academic scholarship to be awarded at Paris Junior College.
"Supporting education through this scholarship at PJC," said Paris Founders Lions Club President Bob Seale, "is just one way our club seeks to better the lives of those around us."
The general scholarship will be awarded annually to a PJC student chosen by the college's Scholarship Committee.
"We're grateful for the vision of the Paris Founders Lions Club and their desire to assist students attending Paris Junior College. We always welcome help from those wishing to further the cause of education," said Derald Bulls, PJC's director of institutional advancement and alumni affairs.
Funding for the scholarship came from the Lions Club's many fundraising activities over its decades of service in Paris. The organization's biggest annual fundraiser is the operation of a hamburger stand during each fall's Red River Valley Fair in Paris.
The club also sponsors special PJC scholarship awards for winners of its annual Lions Club Queen contest.
Lions Clubs International is the largest service organization in the world, boasting 1.35 million members in 206 countries. The Paris club is a Founders club, meaning it was among the first clubs formed.
