New Aviation Maintenance Technology program approved at PJC

Published or Revised December 11, 2023

Modifications to existing programs and creation of a new aviation maintenance technology program were addressed at the Paris Junior College Board of Regents meeting held on Monday, March 27, 2023.

Regents approved a new program, Aviation Maintenance Technology - Airframe Mechanic, with Level 1 and 2 Certificates and an Associate of Applied Science. The Aircraft Line Technician is 15 semester credit hours (SCH), the Aviation Maintenance Technology - Airframe Certificate is 45 SCH, and the Aviation Maintenance Technology - Airframe Mechanic AAS is 60 SCH. The program will be based in Greenville and PJC is partnering with L3Harris and federal agencies, as well as working with the City of Greenville, in its development.

Successful completion will allow students to test with the Federal Aviation Administration Airframe Mechanic for certification from the FAA. Long term, the program is expected to ramp up to over 100 students per year, and expand to include the FAA Powerplant Mechanic certification.

A new Level 1 Certificate for Emergency Medical Technician, Advanced was approved by the regents and the Level 2 Certificate for Emergency Medical Technician-Paramedic was revised. The two-semester Electrician program was revised to align with the State program of study, adding more electrician courses and concentrating on residential in the first semester and commercial in the second.

Other revisions include adding 6 SCH to the Medical Records Coding certificate; adding a new Air Conditioning Installer Certificate, adding 3 SCH to the Air Conditioning Certificate, and creating a Advanced Level 2 Certificate for Air Conditioning at 51 SCH that incorporates the Distributed Digital Controls Certificate. The latter would introduce students to chiller systems and computerized building controls that create zones, control varying temperatures, lighting, windows, and more from a centralized computer that may be on- or off-site.
