Paris Junior College unveiled a new interactive video classroom with a ribbon-cutting ceremony on Friday in the Bobby Walters Technology Building. The classroom was made available to PJC from the Northeast Texas Consortium of Colleges and Universities (NETnet) through a special grant. "The new classroom will add to the ability of Paris Junior College to offer instruction to high school and college students in various locations throughout the PJC service area, serving more communities than before," said Dr. Ken Haley, associate dean of distance education. The classrooms will enable students and faculty to share live video along with high-resolution computer graphics between similarly equipped sites. The specialized equipment and installation is valued at approximately $50,000 per site. Haley said that this ITV classroom can be remotely monitored with problems diagnosed from any desktop computer, assuring much greater reliability than some earlier video classrooms.
