Paris ISD signs MOU with Paris Junior College

Paris ISD Superintendent Paul Jones signs Memorandum of Understanding for dual credit courses with Paris Junior College president Dr. Pam Anglin.
House Bills 18 and 505 passed in the last legislative session removed limitations on the number of total dual credit hours a high school student can earn; the number of dual credit hours a student may enroll in each semester or academic year; and the grade levels at which a high school student may be eligible to enroll in dual credit courses. As a result, students now have the opportunity to complete their associate’s degree while in high school and the State of Texas guarantees acceptance by a public four-year university of any complete General Education Core transferred from any Texas public college.
Paris ISD recently signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Paris Junior College to provide students dual credit hours in Biology, Calculus 1 and 2, English IV, Precalculus, Spanish III, and Spanish IV. In addition, dual credit workforce courses are available on the PJC campus in CAD/Drafting, Networking Technician, Electrician, Mechatronics, Health Science, Plumbing, and cosmetology on the Paris Junior High School campus. Online dual credit courses are also available.
“Paris ISD is known for academic rigor which prepares students for college and the work force, said Superintendent Paul Jones. “We made the financial commitment to pay tuition and fees for two classes per semester for all students eligible to take dual credit classes. This not only gives our students the opportunity to be successful in college level work but it is a huge savings on college costs for our students and their families.”
Paris ISD paid $68,673 for dual credit courses in the 2014-2015 school year. Taking the first two years towards a bachelor degree at Paris Junior College can save the parent, on average, $15,000 per year in tuition and fees at any state-funded university and much more at private universities.
