The Texas Workforce Commission recently presented a Skills Development Fund grant for $158,452 to Paris Junior College to custom train 78 employees of Cytec Engineered Materials in Greenville. Cytec workers will receive training for upgraded production, manufacturing, engineering and support positions that after completion will give them an average hourly wage of $33.68. The project cross-trains employees in an effort to increase retention, improve customer communication and enhance production capabilities. It includes training in lean manufacturing, project management and quality control. "I am impressed with the training programs taking place using this grant," said TWC Commissioner Representing the Public Andres Alcantar. "The number of Texans working in these jobs earning competitive wages will be a great economic boost for the northeast Texas area." PJC will conduct 34 courses with 5,048 training hours, the majority at the Cytec facility, through November 2011. "We want Paris Junior College to be viewed as the model for partnering with local industry to provide workforce training through the Skills Development Fund," said Dr. Pam Anglin, PJC's president.
