PJC spring semester art students receive awards

The Fourth Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit was held by the Paris Junior College Art Department on Tuesday, May 3. Ceramic artist Gary C. Hatcher, who had an exhibit at PJC earlier in the spring, judged the entries. The awards were presented during the opening reception, and the show will remain open until May 11 at the Foyer Gallery. Hours are 9 a.m. to 4 p.m., Monday through Thursday. Winners by category include: Photo, Level One: First, “Posterized Still Life” by Keoni Johnson of Paris. Photo, Level Two: First, “The Tipping Point,” by Michelle Kollar of Reno; second, “Door Knob” and third, “Head Lights” both by Tracy Loyd of Detroit. Advanced Photography: First, “Pears” by Debra Jones of Campbell; second, “Chief” by Jennifer Herron of Paris; third, “The Old Cotton Gin” by Beverleigh Carpenter of Paris; and honorable mentions, “The Blues” by Michael Herron of Paris and “Galapagos Island Pelican” by Barillon Dougherty of Paris. Design I: First, “Book Jacket Project” and second, “Initials Design Project” both by Jeremy Poarch of Clarksville, third “Mythical Beast Project” by Will Corrigan of Paris, and honorable mention to Poarch for “Mythical Beast Project.” Design II: First, “Self Portrait in Planes” to Josetin Westling of Paris; second, “Wire Gesture” by Jaymee Cogburn of Cooper; third, “Wire Gesture” by Priscilla Johnson of Paris; and honorable mentions to Westling for “Cultural Walking Stick,” Jacob Turner of Greenville for “Self Portrait in Planes,” Poarch’s “Cultural Walking Stick,” Jessica Holland of Paris for “Self Portrait in Planes,” and Cogburn for “Cultural Walking Stick.” Drawing I: First, “Fabric Study” by Skylar Hines of Brookston; second, “Still Life” by Poarch; third, “Feather” by Randi Rosson of Greenville; and honorable mentions to “Contour Line Study” by Ryan Campbell of Lone Oak, “Paper Bag Study” by Hines, and “Collage” by Anne Rouleau of Greenville. This was awarded to Beverleigh Carpenter for “The Blue Door Cabin” in Advanced Photography.
