PJC Board of Regents receives clean audit report

Another clean audit report was received by the Paris Junior College Board of Regents Monday evening from the accounting firm of McClanahan and Holmes. “In our opinion, the financial statements referred to present fairly in all material respects the respective financial position of Paris Junior College as of Aug. 31, 2013,” said Andy Reich from McClanahan and Holmes of the 2012-2013 audit. “You have a clean opinion on your audit.” Reich added that there was a net increase of about $2 million, so it was a positive year even with all the improvements done with college funds. The Regents also received a report from Vice President of Instruction Dr. Barbara Buchanan about the changes to the Texas Success Initiative. The state will now require students to test into developmental courses just as they have to test into college-level courses. A statewide testing score has also been mandated. Because PJC is mandated to assist all students, a new adult basic education course will be offered through PJC's continuing education department. Students will receive basic education to gain skills for entry level jobs and be ready to take developmental education courses. The regents approved the new non-credit basic skills course, COMG 1003, with a tuition fee of $294. In other business, the Regents:
  • Received a financial report from PJC Comptroller Keitha Carlton showing the financial position of the college remains strong.
  • Adopted the 2014-2015 Academic Calendar.
  • Received an update on the first fall graduation ceremony at PJC, to be held at 7:00 p.m. on Dec. 13 in the Hunt Center. More than 100 students have signed up to participate so far.
  • Discussed the Achieving the Dream Board Strategy Institute in March. Once again the Greater Texas Foundation will fund attendance for two regents.
  • Approved the hiring of John Plemons as Instructor of Welding effective Nov. 1, 2013, and Teri Zamora as Vice President of Business Services, effective Jan. 1, 2014.
