Paris Junior College approves budget, swears in new regent

New Paris Junior College Regent Mark Buster is sworn in at the beginning of the Monday night meeting by PJC Executive Secretary Pam Bennett. Buster fills the at-large position representing all of Lamar County.

Monday evening the Paris Junior College Board of Regents held a public hearing on the proposed 2017-18 budget. No comments from the public were received. Next the regents met in regular meeting and new regent Mark Buster was sworn in. The Regents also gave final approval to the 2017-2018 budget of $33,806,764. In other business, the Regents:
  • Received the monthly financial statements showing PJC continues to be in a good position showing most revenue targets being met.
  • Approved a policy requiring a property deposit fee of zero. Procedures to collect damages for destruction of property continue to work well.
  • Accepted the Certified Tax Rolls of $3.3 billion for property taxable by Paris Junior College, as presented by the Lamar County Chief Appraiser.
  • Approved a new WorkKeys fee of $44, passing along an increase from ACT, which administers the test.
  • Adopted a new ID card replacement cost of $50. The new student ID cards may act as an ATM card for Pell refunds.
  • Accepted the final Campus Carry Policy after legal review with no changes from when it was previously reviewed by the Board of Regents in June.
  • Received a new report provided by Economic Modeling Specialists International providing 10-year job projections and program demand gap analysis for counties in the PJC service area as part of the President's Report.
  • Approved the employment of Instructor of Emergency Medical Services Clyde "Mark" Mallory and Government Instructor Kelly Payne as well as the resignation of Coordinator/Instructor of Emergency Medical Services Blaine Jones.
