A crowd gathered to watch the placing of a wreath and the flags at the Paris Junior College veterans memorial.
Veterans who were or are Paris Junior College students were honored at a ceremony held Monday at 11 a.m. in the DeShong Chapel. Led by PJC history instructors Allen Williams and Ken Hanushek, the names of former students who lost their lives in World War II, Korea and Viet Nam were read out loud, accompanied by carillon chimes. An ensemble from the PJC chorale performed "Land of the Free", and Williams gave the history of Armistice Day, a ceremony upon which Veterans Day is based.
Afterwards, current PJC students Robert Edwards, Michael Bills, Micael Loggins, Nolan Annett and Norris Banks carried a wreath, the U.S. flag and the Texas flag to the PJC student memorial across from the Administration Building, and played "Taps." Also attending to help honor veterans were PJC Student Government Association representatives Meredith Killingsworth, Tairisha Scott and Emily McDaniel.
