Published or Revised March 25, 2008
The Paris Junior College Music Department will present "An Evening with the PJC Chamber Singers" at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday, April 1, in the sanctuary of the First Baptist Church, according to Patricia Fowzer, vocal director. This elite choral group will present a repertoire of sacred choral favorites such as "The Heavens Are Telling" from Haydn's Creation, "Be Still My Soul" arranged by Ken Berg, and "Shut de Door" arranged by Mark Hayes. Linda Flanary, PJC accompanist, will begin the evening with a prelude of piano selections. Opening the concert will be a new arrangement of the traditional hymn "How Firm A Foundation" featuring a four-hand piano arrangement by Flanary and Thomas Belew, organist at Central Presbyterian Church. The audience will be invited to sing along on this piece. In addition, several voice students of Fowzer and Roger Bryant will present sacred solos during the concert. "This has been an exciting year for the group as they have been chosen once again to sing the National Anthem for two Metroplex professional baseball teams," said Fowzer. First they will sing the anthem for the Firsco Rough Riders at the Dr Pepper Ballpark on April 11. This is the opening weekend for the farm club of the Texas Rangers. They have also been invited for the fifth consecutive year to sing the anthem for the Texas Rangers. The performance date for this event has not yet been set. Members of the Chamber Singers include: sopranos Brandi Amos, Amy Chennault, Robyn Huizinga, Erin McDowell, Kristyn Phillips and Betty Swasko; altos Donna Bauder, Alden Bowers, Laura Carrington, Nancy Gilmer, Brittany Joseph, Cate Jones, Sattriona Nachwaya, Amber Orr and Vallery Schmidt; tenors Cade Bailey, Marcus Bailey, Dillon Dingman, John Fornof, Joey Rember, Sammy Rollerson and Jordon Thielman; and basses Scott Branum, Tyler Little, Josh Maxwell and Chase Nation. There is no admission charge for this concert, and the public is invited to attend.
