Paris Junior College's Board of Regents received a report as required by the Legislature showing retention for each course offered by instructor name for the fall 2011 and spring 2012 semesters. Paris Junior College's completion rate is 91.69 percent, which is slightly above the state average for all community colleges. Texas defines a "completer" as any student who receives a final grade in a course. The regents approved a new policy on dating violence and bullying that will be included in the student handbook. The policy was a result of the increased bullying problems in public schools and colleges across the nation. They also approved a modification to PJC's policy required by the federal Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA). The change adds online students to the policy. In other business the Regents:
  • Heard a positive financial report from Vice President of Business Services John Eastman who said PJC has hit projected tuition and fee revenue with three months left in the fiscal year.
  • Appointed by acclamation Board of Regents President Curtis Fendley as PJC's representative to the Ark-Tex Council of Governments Board of Directors.
  • Approved conveyance of a property struck-off from the City of Paris tax rolls at 1535 West Walker.
  • Accepted revisions to the Developmental Plan for developmental students, including more information about tutoring services and diagnostic scores for more accurate placement of students in the level of class they need.
  • Received a report showing a drop in summer enrollment from a year ago. Other colleges contacted in the East Texas region have experienced a similar drop; the economy has played a role in this.
  • Accepted employment of Lance Noble as men's and women's soccer coach effective July 5, Dr. Matthew Elam as instructor of engineering/mathematics effective Aug. 20, and the resignations of Deanna Gall, student recruiter/advisor, effective July 31, and Alexia Riggs, technical services librarian, effective Aug. 31.
