PJC ends fiscal year on strong positive note

Welcoming the news of ending the 2007-2008 budget year in the black, the Paris Junior College Board of Regents adopted a new 2008-2009 budget of more than $27 million, and approved the transfer of $750,000 to the plant fund to go toward Phase II of the HVAC renovation. The Regents also heard a presentation by Denney Architects about modifying the Paris campus master plan and modifying the location of new student housing. The regents voted to move the location for the residence halls north of the walking trail and south of the applied sciences building. In the president's report, Dr. Pam Anglin reported the sale of the old Greenville campus was closed on Aug. 18. The purchaser is the Phoenix Charter School, which has moved in and begun classes. The move into the new PJC Greenville Center was completed, and summer classes continued on Aug. 11. Registration was held on Aug. 19, and fall classes began Monday. PJC has received another Skills Development Grant in Greenville for Woodgrain Millwork of over $70,000 to train employees. Also this week, the Regional Advanced Manufacturing Academy will kick off with receipt of a $1.2 million Skills Development Grant to allow 14 companies to receive training. In other action, the Regents:- Accepted the tax roll valuation of $1.5 billion taxable value, and reduced the tax rate from 0.1980 cents last year to 0.1874 cents this year — over a penny decrease per $100 valuation. The 0.1874 cents per $100 valuation is for maintenance and operations of the Paris campus. There is no tax for debt services since PJC has no general obligation debt outstanding. This applies only in the Paris city limits and the old Cunningham School District. No other portion of PJC's five-county service area pays taxes to support the institution.

- Approved the extension of Dr. Anglin's contract as PJC President.
- Accepted the retirement of Learning Resources Center Director LuLane Caraway and the resignations of Educational Talent Search advisor Kristen Lewis, speech instructor Ann Gerrity, drafting instructor David Stanfield, admissions recruiter Jessica Guest and accounting instructor Tish Holleman.
- Accepted employment recommendations for Vice President of Student Services Dr. Sherry Aaker, Controller Keitha Carlton, staff accountant Kim Brown, Assistant Volleyball Coach Tennessee Brown, Assistant Basketball Coach Brian Burton, jewelry technology instructor Serina Omori, and Educational Talent Search advisor Sheila Ensey.
