PJC Golfers Place Third at Tyler Tournament

Paris Junior College’s golf team came in third at the Tyler Junior College invitational played Monday and Tuesday at the Eagles Bluff Country Club. “We have to be able to play well in both rounds of the tournament,” said PJC golf coach David Johnson. “We’re putting ourselves in too big a hole in either the first or second round, making it harder to win. We’re looking for more consistency.” The Dragons shot a 617, two shots behind host TJC and five behind Ranger College. Ranger finished first with 612, Tyler had 615, Seminole State College’s score was 628, the University of Texas – Tyler had 646, Jacksonville College scored 650, Texas A&M University-Texarkana had 653 and Jacksonville’s second team scored 674. Zac Oliver led PJC’s team, finishing fifth individually out of 48 players. He received all-tournament honors. Collin Thompson shot 77-76 and finished seventh, Oliver Stephens shot 75-79 for eighth. Logan Dent shot 84-76 and finished at 20th Jeremy Salas shot 88-78 to tie for 29th, and Zac McEwin shot 88-79 to finish 39th. Currently ranked seventeenth in the nation, the Dragons play next at the McLennan Dr. Pepper Classic on Oct. 28-29 at the Twin Rivers Country Club in Waco, Texas.
