PJC Hispanic Club launches foreign film festival
Published or Revised January 30, 2008
Encouraging appreciation of world cultures, languages and films produced outside the United States is the goal of the new International Film Festival sponsored by the Paris Junior College Hispanic Club. Each Tuesday in February a variety of foreign films will be shown at 4 p.m. and 7 p.m. in the PJC Student Center Ballroom. "We hope to bring PJC students and the community together for some evenings of entertainment and a glimpse beyond Paris, Texas," says PJC Spanish Instructor Kelli Ebel. "Film provides a means of viewing a culture. We have selected award-winning films which share positive messages of hope and courage." Included at the showings will be a coffee bar and hors d'œuvres paralleling the culture of the film shown. The film schedule is:- Feb. 5: Paloma de Papel (Paper Dove) at 4 p.m.; Nuovo Cinema Paradiso (Cinema Paradiso) at 7 p.m.
- Feb. 12: La Vita e Bella (Life is Beautiful) at 4 p.m.; Mar Adentro (The Sea Inside) at 7 p.m.
- Feb. 19: Au Revoir Les Enfants (Farewell the Children) at 4 p.m.; Born Into Brothels at 7 p.m.
- Feb. 26: Les Triplettes de Belleville (The Triplets of Belleville) at 4 p.m.; Nirgendwo in Afrika (Nowhere in Africa) at 7 p.m.
