PJC holds GED graduation ceremonies Tuesday

Published or Revised May 06, 2009

The Adult Education and Family Literacy Department at Paris Junior College held graduation ceremonies Tuesday evening in the Ray Karrer Theater on the PJC campus. Kathy Floyd, MA, LPC, a board certified Christian counselor, spoke to the graduates using "Mapquest Your Life: Good Directions and Great Detours" as the focus of her remarks. Floyd said, "Have you ever put your destination into one of those map Web sites and followed the directions and ended up on a road that didn't seem to make any sense? Have you had a trip that took longer than you thought it was going to, or took you through some places you didn't expect? Did you ever get so focused on the directional details that you forgot to enjoy the journey along the way? But, with the help of the map and a few good Samaritans along the way, didn't you usually end up where you needed to be after all? Life is like that." Louisa Kessel, director of Adult Education and Family Literacy, gave special awards to some of her staff and volunteer workers. Betty Stokes, Mary Clark, Rebecca Noelke-Richey, Susan Cook and Sharon O'Brien were the recipients of these awards. Kessel presented the Kiwanis Club of Paris GED Scholarship to Frumencia Gutierrez of Paris. The Rotary Club of Greater Paris GED Scholarship went to Colin Henderson of Emory. Patti Couch of Paris was given the Bobby R. and Imy Walters Scholarship. Darrell Butler of Saltillo was the recipient of the Daon Wall Memorial Scholarship. Graduates inducted into the National Adult Education Honor Society include Donna Asher, Pamela Bearden, Darrell Butler, Patti Couch, Gilberto DeLaRosa, Frankie Fouse, Leah Fouse, Stephanie Fouse, Carol McLeod, Morgan Vanderslice and Jennifer York.
