Stephanie Norman, editor of Paris Junior College's student newspaper, The Bat, and part-time staff writer for The Paris News, was awarded a $400 scholarship at the annual Texas Intercollegiate Press Association convention March 27 in Kerrville, Texas. She and Sports Editor Quentin Carpenter also received honorable mention awards in the previously published newspaper competition; Norman for Page One Newspaper Design and Carpenter for both Sports News Story and Sports Feature Story. "We are proud of our students," says Journalism Instructor Sharon Dennehy. "They do an excellent job representing PJC at the state level before their peers." Norman plans to major in journalism and attend Texas A&M University — Commerce in the fall. A committee of journalism instructors from across the state selected her for one of four Mike Warms Memorial Community College scholarships. The scholarships are in memory of a Trinity Valley Community College journalism instructor and are awarded based on a student's samples of work and commitment to following a career in journalism. TIPA, founded in 1909, is an organization of two- and four-year college journalism students and advisers. It is the oldest collegiate press association in the country.
