PJC president again serving on AACC board

Dr. Pamela Anglin, president of Paris Junior College, is about to begin serving her second term on the Board of Directors of the American Association of Community Colleges. She previously served on the board from August 2008 to April 2011. During that time she chaired the AACC’s Commission on Emerging Technologies. Now she is one of six elected from among 17 nominated by the board to serve a term from 2016 to 2018. The election was held in February and was recently certified. Dr. Anglin is joined by other new board members Steven Gonzales, president of GateWay Community College (Arizona), Sylvia Jenkins, president of Moraine Valley Community College (Illinois), Alex Johnson, president of Cuyahoga Community College (Ohio), DeRionne Pollard, president of Montgomery College (Maryland), and Kris Williams, president at Henderson Community College (Kentucky). Founded in 1920, the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) represents nearly 1,200 two-year, associate degree–granting institutions and more than 13 million students, as well as a growing number of international members in Puerto Rico, Japan, Great Britain, Korea, and the United Arab Emirates. The colleges are the largest and fastest-growing sector of U.S. higher education, enrolling close to half (45 percent) of all U.S. undergraduates. The association has ongoing interaction with key federal departments and agencies including the U.S. departments of Labor, Education, Energy, Homeland Security, and Commerce, and the National Science Foundation. Governed by a 32-member board of directors elected by the membership, AACC is a nonprofit organization whose overriding mission is to “Build a Nation of Learners by Advancing America’s Community Colleges.”
