PJC honor society receives high accolade

Recently, members of the two year college honor society at Paris Junior College found out their chapter, Beta Zeta, had earned special recognition. The students were in Waco for the 2016 Texas Regional Convention of Phi Theta Kappa, the group's state convention.
Students attended workshops on several topics, including how to conduct effective meetings, fundraising, and other Phi Theta Kappa programs. The convention is also a time for awards and Beta Zeta members were well represented.
The chapter was awarded Five-Star Chapter status, the highest level possible for a chapter. Beta Zeta also received a Merit award for the Honors in Action project. Students Rebecca Graham and Joel Mutchler and PTK advisor Diann V. Mason were awarded Hall of Honor recognition. Graham was also recognized for Five-Star Competitive Edge completion.
Over the three day convention the group heard several speakers discuss leadership, including the honorable Judge Ken Starr, President and Chancellor of Baylor University and former Special Prosecutor for the Justice Department.
According to Joel Mutchler, Beta Zeta President, “It was a great learning experience and perfect opportunity to see what the other Phi Theta Kappa Chapters have been doing this year,” said Mutchler, Beta Zeta president.
Other members on the trip included Erick Gaytan, Lesli Johnson, Alexis Lawson (all from the Paris campus as are Mutchler and Graham), Anna Jones and Alexis Foster representing the PJC - Sulphur Springs Center, and Matthew Sandquist and Hannah Palmer representing the PJC - Greenville Center.
