PJC Regents adopt budget, proposed tax rate
Published or Revised August 26, 2014
A formal budget hearing at Paris Junior College brought no comments from the public Monday evening. The Board of Regents then voted to propose a tax rate of .1866, which will be formally voted on at the September meeting. The regents also slated two public hearings on the tax rate for Sept. 4 and 11 and adopted an annual operating budget of $40,252,985 for 2014-2015. In other business the Regents:- Received a financial report and heard that the overall cash position of PJC remains quite strong.
- Increased the WorkKeys testing fee, which involves three main components and a Certified Work Ready Certificate, to $28.
- Opted out of setting a property deposit. PJC policies to collect in the event of destruction of property work well.
- Approved the sale of tax write-off properties. This was first approved at the June meeting, but the list did not contain all the properties. The amount remains unchanged at $4,036.
- Accepted the Certified Tax Rolls of $1,574,086,224 for property taxable by Paris Junior College.
- Approved the transfer of up to $1.5 million from the PJC operating fund to the renewals and replacement fund.
- Received the results from the fall 2013 student evaluation of instruction. Survey results reveal the majority of PJC students are satisfied with their classes.
- Heard an enrollment report on the Summer II semester showing increases of 36 percent in head count and 39 percent in contact hours from one year ago.
- Approved the reassignments of Krista McAdamis as Instructor of Adult Education and Family Literacy, Susan Sanchez as Director of Adult Education and Family Literacy, and Judith Smith as Instructor of Associate Degree Nursing; the employment of Beverly Cochran as Instructor of Biology, Tiffany Crenshaw as Instructor of Licensed Vocational Nursing, and Robyn Huizinga as Instructor of Speech and Drama; the resignation/retirements of Danee Mitchell as Upward Bound student advisor, Del Oyler as instructor of biology, and Essie Moore as cosmetology instructor effective Dec. 12. The regents also extended the contract for PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin for an additional year to maintain a three-year contract.
