PJC Selects Presidential Search Firm

Gold Hill Associates will lead the search for the next president of Paris Junior College, by action of the PJC Board of Regents Monday evening. The firm has placed many community college presidents in Texas. In the public comment period, PJC history instructor Lisa Johnson presented a resolution from the PJC Faculty Association recommending inclusion of faculty in the presidential selection process, as well as in the selection of any interim leadership. After a yearlong process involving extensive work by administration and faculty, a new core curriculum was presented to the regents by PJC vice president of instruction Dr. Barbara Buchanan. The curriculum was accepted and now goes to the Texas Higher Education Coordinating Board for approval. “Thanks to the faculty who worked so hard to get us here,” Dr. Buchanan said at the end of her presentation. In other business, PJC President Dr. Pamela Anglin apprised the regents of an accountability measures report received from the Legislative Budget Board. According to the report, the number of certificates and degrees awarded by PJC has grown 210 percent since 1977, compared to the state average of 144 percent. A fall semester graduation ceremony has been added to the traditional spring ceremony due to increased numbers of graduating students. It is scheduled for Dec. 13 at 7 p.m. in the Hunt Center. The regents also approved the reassignments of Cathy McManus as Academic/Financial Aid Advisor in Greenville, Natasha Whitaker as Academic Advisor in Paris, and Linda Miles as Academic /Financial Aid Advisor in Sulphur Springs.
