PJC Softball Standouts Move to Next Level

Two standout players from Paris Junior College and North Lamar High School have signed to advance their playing careers and education to the next level. Chancy Williams, North Lamar right-handed pitcher and daughter of Mike Williams, has accepted an opportunity to transfer to Youngstown State University in Youngstown, Ohio, and compete for the school’s National Collegiate Athletic Association Division I softball team for the spring of 2014. As a standout player for the Lady Panthers, she assisted her high school team to UIL post-season play every year of her career, as well a UIL State Championship. William’s performance on the mound for the Lady Dragons during the 2013 season led to an appearance in the 2013 National Junior College Athletic Association’s Softball World Series. There she earned a 16-7 record on the mound with a 3.02 ERA while striking out 98 in 130 innings pitched. Post-season honors for Williams included NJCAA Region XIV East First Team All-Conference pitcher. PJC softball coach Chelsey Jordan said that Chancy’s 2013 performance was “a big part of this team’s success last year, recording the most wins on the pitching staff last season. Chancy will be successful anywhere she goes. She spins the ball well and has a textbook pitching state of mind. She is a hard worker and gets along with everyone. She will truly be missed here at Paris Junior College.” Chelsea Jordan, another North Lamar standout and daughter of Shawn and Vicki Jordan, has signed a letter of intent to attend Southern Arkansas University in Magnolia, Ark., for the 2014-15 season. Jordan’s 2013 stats included a .254 batting average along with seven doubles, four homeruns and 20 RBI. At SAU, Jordan will join former Dragons softball player Audrey Farfan as well as former Dragons baseball players Chase Harvey of Paris High School and Jared Fielden of Harmony High School. Coach Jordan labels Chelsea as “a versatile athlete who can be placed anywhere on the field with confidence she will get the job done. She has power at the plate and a strong presence on the field. She is a great leader for this PJC family and will be a big asset to the Lady Muleriders in the future.” Both girls played strong roles in the Lady Dragons softball team placing first in conference, first in the NJCAA Region XIV Tournament and ending with a ninth-place finish at the NJCAA Softball World Series last season.
