PJC honor society sponsors talk on historic forts
Published or Revised January 27, 2014
Historian and photographer Derrick Birdsall, Park Superintendent at the Farmers Branch Historical Park, will speak Monday at Paris Junior College on exploring frontier forts of Texas through photography. The event, open to the public, is a leadership project sponsored by Phi Theta Kappa, PJC’s two-year college honor society. It will take place from 12:30 to 2 p.m. Monday, Jan. 27 in the foyer of the Rheudasil Learning Center. Birdsall supplied the photographs for “The Texas Forts Trail,” combining his newfound passion for photography with a life-long love of history. He travelled thousands of miles across the old Texas frontier to complete this project, visiting eight forts and one mission in Texas. An interpreter of history through tours, lectures and photography, on Monday Birdsall will discuss the book and his experiences learning of Texas’ rich history.
