PJC starting jazz ensemble
Published or Revised August 14, 2014
Expanding jazz throughout the community while educating and enriching students by learning jazz music is the goal of a new class starting this fall at Paris Junior College. “Students do not have to be music majors to play,” said PJC music instructor and director of choirs Philip Briggs. “We have scholarships for jazz band musicians and they can be in any field of study.” PJC is seeking instrumentalists with at least a high school level of playing experience and competence. Instruments include trumpets, trombones, percussionists, keyboardists, and woodwinds (alto, tenor or bass saxophone). PJC will supply percussionists and keyboardists, all others should have their own instrument. “We will have open call auditions and scheduled auditions prior to the beginning of fall semester,” said Briggs. “Probably the third week of August. Contact the music department about the scholarship application at 903-782-0343 or email music@parisjc.edu. This should be a lot of fun.”
