PJC student named scholarship winner

Recently Paris Junior College and Paris Regional Medical Center awarded the Wayne Neal Endowed Scholarship to PJC student Taylor Poteet. Taylor Poteet has received the 2013-14 Wayne Neal Endowed Radiology Technology Scholarship, according to Steve Grubbs, Paris Regional Medical Center CEO, and Marcia Putnam, Paris Junior College Director of Health Occupations.
Fellow Paris Regional healthcare co-workers, physicians, friends and hospital administration created the Neal Endowed Scholarship in his memory. Neal served as Director of Radiology Services at PRMC until he lost his battle with cancer in December 2009.
“This is a special way to remember an extraordinary young man who was dedicated to his profession,” said Steve Grubbs, CEO Paris Regional Medical Center. Neal was involved in the healthcare industry in Paris having worked over 15 years at McCuistion Regional, CHRISTUS St. Joseph’s Hospital and Paris Regional Medical Center. Wayne Neal also taught in the formative years of PJC's Radiology Technology Program.
Poteet began her radiology technician training last January and will complete her Associate of Applied Sciences degree in radiology technology this December.
“On behalf of the students who have, and will continue to benefit from the generosity of friends, co-workers and family of Wayne Neal, PJC sincerely appreciates the legacy this scholarship creates,” said Derald Bulls, PJC’s director of institutional advancement/alumni affairs.
Grubbs noted, “The positive relationship between PJC and Paris Regional and the important health occupation programs provided through the College, such as the radiology technology program, support career opportunities for this entire region.”
“Radiology technology plays a key role in the diagnosis and treatment of many illnesses and injuries,” said Putnam.
A 2008 Paris High School graduate, Poteet is the daughter of Kim Poteet and the late Ralph Poteet. She is also a former PJC cheerleader.
