Students from Paris Junior College recently took advantage of an opportunity to learn about Phi Theta Kappa’s Leadership Development Studies curriculum. PTK is the two-year college honor society and the Texas Region PTK Leadership Conference was held last weekend at East Texas Baptist University in Marshall, Texas.
PTK Beta Zeta Chapter representatives were Rebecca Graham and Cheyenne King from the Paris campus; Caleb Artis and Hannah Palmer from the PJC - Greenville Center; and Nabor Cuevas, Jr. and Anna Jones from the PJC - Sulphur Springs Center. They were accompanied by PJC English instructor and PTK sponsor Diann Mason.
The students attended general sessions with speakers on various topics in leadership and attended smaller group discussions on the topics. The final session on Saturday was a panel discussion where each group elected a leader to speak for them on some of the topics discussed.
Palmer, who serves as vice president of Beta Zeta-Greenville, was elected from her group and represented her chapter and discussion group well.
“At first, I was nervous to speak for everyone, but the topics were so interesting that I got really involved,” said Palmer.
The group of 350 Texas PTK leaders also participated in a Privilege Walk, a valuable activity to make participants aware of the various types of privileges we enjoy in American society.
