PJC students attend fall 2016 SGA Region III meeting

Recently members of the Student Government Association at Paris Junior College attended a Region III meeting hosted by Navarro College in Corsicana, Texas. Each attending SGA delegate could select different areas to hear from speakers, including needs and wants, diversity, and branding. It was a good organizational meeting preparing for the SGA state convention in April and Community College Day on Feb. 7 in Austin. "The kids had a wonderful time," said SGA Advisor and Student Life Director Kenneth Webb. "We also had a Region III unity project, Operation Christmas Child, where shoe boxes were filled with soap, toothpaste, crayons, etc., for children. PJC donated socks and a washcloth for each box - 100 in all." The Presidents of each school had discussion before the big meeting was held, the Vice President of each school talked about the vote that would be held at the meeting, which was adding section 3 of the constitution to the voting procedures at the upcoming State Convention. While those discussions were going, everyone else was taking part in a unity project. Operation Christmas Child, The shoebox ministry where each person would make a present for a child with different gifts and $7 donation in each box. At the main meeting PJC Treasurer Hannah Garrett (who also serves as Region 3 Treasurer), discussed the budget of the region. Delegates approved the budget and voted to approve adding the new section of the constitution to the voting procedures for the State Convention. In addition to PJC and Navarro, SGA Region III consists of Angelina College, Jacksonville College, Kilgore College, Northeast Texas Community College, Panola College, Texarkana College, Texas State Technical College - Marshall, Tyler Junior College and Trinity Valley Community College.
